Industries and businesses rely heavily on their forklifts. As such, having them run at top performance requires various types of maintenance. Forklift batteries require a fair amount of maintenance, including battery watering. If you have too little water, then you run the risk of overflowing during the charging process and acid dilution. It’s an important thing to keep up with, especially if you’re using a lithium-ion battery so it can have a safe and effective charge.

The liquid in lead-acid batteries is an electrolyte made of hazardous sulfuric acid and deionized water. The electrolyte will react with lead-based plates inside of the battery in order to store and release energy in the form of direct current electricity. The electrolyte level will decline with the battery usage, so it needs to be periodically checked and maintained.
The addition of deionized water to forklift batteries is vital. It will replace the evaporated water from when the battery undergoes the electrolysis process during charging or boils away during the charging process. It can also lower the charge of the battery and reduce the amount of charging cycles needed before replacement. Not performing battery watering can cause major problems, including:
If a forklift is used every day, then battery watering is typically required about once a week. If the battery has been used for an extended period or reconditioned, then it should be checked after every five charges. With proper maintenance, a newer battery can go up to ten charges for the first few years.
